- Australian Junior Men’s Team at U23 World Championships – Australia: Frank Drmic, Phil Doherty, Simon Dwight, Brendan Mann, Scott McGregor, Bradley McKinnon, Matthew Neilsen, Aaron Trahair. Won Gold Medal.
- Australian Junior Women’s Team at U19 World Championships – Brazil: Tracey Braithwaite, Rohanee Cox, Chika Emeagi, Desiree Glaubitz, Lauren Jackson, Narelle Lindsay, Emily McInerny, Alicia Poto, Penny Taylor, Kristen Veal, Samantha Woosnam. Assistant Coach - Phil Brown. Won Silver Medal.
- Australian Senior Men’s Team: Brett Maher, Scott McGregor, Patrick Reidy, Tony Ronaldson, Aaron Trahair
AIS results and awards
- Men's team in South East Australian Basketball League finished 7th (missing play-offs on percentage) with a 14-10 win/loss record in the Eastern Conference of the CBA
- Men's team toured Missouri and Illinois in November and played NCAA II and III and NAIS schools. Finished the tour with a 7-3 win/loss record.
- Women's team in the 1997 WNBL season finished 4th with a 5-11 win/loss record.
- Lauren Jackson won the 1997 WNBL Rookie of the Year award and also became the youngest ever player in an Australian senior women's team.
- Rohanee Cox won the 1997 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander National Junior Sports Woman award.
- Senior men's coach Gordon McLeod was named 1997 CBA East Conference Coach of the Year.
- Luc Longley was a member of the Chicago Bulls that were NBA Champions.
