Developing educational exercise resources to improve awareness and knowledge of Type 1 Diabetes within community sport settings

Community sport is one of the most common settings in which youth exercise. However, there are a lack of educational exercise resources available in Western Australia currently, therefore, community sport coaches feel they lack the knowledge, confidence and understanding to provide adequate support for youth with T1D. The aim of the study is to i) develop a series of educational resources based on the identified information that youth living with T1D, parents and community sport coaches deemed to be important and ii) to explore the acceptability and usability of the resources with members in community sport settings. Who can participate? We are looking for: • Individuals aged 16 years and older • Members of community at all sporting levels who support youth with sport and exercise. What does it involve? The study will involve the completion of two online surveys that will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes each to complete. In addition, you will also be required to complete an online interview that will take approximately 15 minutes. You will be provided access to the developed educational resources over a 4-week period and will be required to access them at least once during this period. You will not be required to attend Perth Children’s Hospital for any visits. How can I find out more? Email diabetes.research@health.wa.gov.au to find out more.
