Sleep and Mental Health in Current and Former Athletes
This project is focused on investigating the prevalence and severity of sleep and mental health problems in current and former athletes. The project involves three studies: 1) large-scale survey screening for sleep and mental health issues in current and former athletes; 2) objective sleep monitoring in current and former athletes; 3) interviewing retired athletes to identify ways to improve transitions out of sport. The aim of the project is to identify risk factors for disordered sleep and mental ill-health (i.e., playing status, level of competition, gender, sport type, etc.). By doing so, we can identify ways in which we can better support athletes' sleep and mental health during their athletic careers and following retirement from sport.
