Summary

  • The Australian 21 and Under team, coached by former AIS head coach Gaye Teede, defeated New Zealand 21 and Under 2-1 in a three match series in Australia.
  • Three 1994 scholarship holders and two 1995 scholarship holders were chosen in the Australian Under 21 side that played New Zealand in June.
  • The AIS had a successful tour of the Caribbean, playing 11 matches for 8 wins and 2 losses, with one game washed out. By contrast, in the annual exchange with Canterbury, played in freezing and wet conditions outdoors in Christchurch, AIS lost all three matches.
  • The NSW State League provided week-in week-out competition on an invitational basis. The AIS recorded 5 wins and 8 losses.
  • Australia played South Africa, reinstated to international netball, for the Milo Cup, winning the series 3-0.
  • Australia then defended its world championship when it defeated South Africa 68-48 in Birmingham, UK. The team included eight former AIS scholarship holders.
