Summary

  • Netball was a demonstration sport at the Auckland Commonwealth Games, where Australia won the gold medal. The team of ten included seven former AIS players.
  • Australia played two tests against both New Zealand and England before losing to New Zealand in the final of the J and J Cup.
  • The AIS won the inaugural Oceania Netball Tournament in Fiji in July.
  • AIS athletes joined the All Australia Netball Association touring party to introduce netball to China, focusing on Beijing and Nanjing.
  • United Kingdom Tour -  the AIS won all six tests, against England (3), Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and four provincial matches.
