Synopsis

Change Our Game Conversation Series: Time for change, we need more women in sports leadership.

Women continue to be under-represented in visible leadership roles throughout the sport and recreation sector. This includes across executive leadership roles, Board positions, and high-performance coaching and officiating role and media.

Recent data from the Australian Clearinghouse for Sport shows that while data shows high participation at grassroots levels, other data suggests that women are not transitioning through the pathway to professional or high-performance roles. While various reasons are suggested for why, it seems a series of social, cultural and sometimes procedural barriers remain.

Join us for a panel discussion with Change Our Game Ambassadors Jacara Egan, Muthi Muthi and Gunditjmara woman and assistant coach at Western Jets in the AFL Coates Talent League; Rana Hussain, CEO and founder of Good.Human; and Molina Asthana, founder of Multicultural Women in Sport, as we explore the barriers and opportunities to bring about change that will enable more women into sports leadership roles.

Our next Conversation Series will be held in the lead up to the 2024 Change Our Game International Women’s Day on 8 March, with the United Nations theme of Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment.

We will be joined online by Auslan interpreters for the duration of the Conversation Series.

An initiative of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, the Change Our Game movement aims to increase the number of women and girls participating in sport and active recreation, from grassroots through to senior leadership roles.
