AIS Athletics Program

The AIS Athletics (Track and Field) program was one of the original eight AIS sports in 1981.  In 1988, Russell Short was the first athlete with a disability to be awarded an AIS scholarship. During the early 1990's, scholarships were also awarded to athletes located outside Canberra and coaches were employed in each state. In 2001, the able bodied and athletes with disability athletics programs were integrated under Head Coach Chris Nunn.

All AIS athlete scholarships discontinued at the end of 2013. Responsibility for coaches and programs based at the AIS training facility transferred to Athletics Australia (AA) as the respective National Sporting Organisation.
