Summary

  • At the 1991 World Youth Cup in Portugal, Australia achieved its greatest result in international soccer at any level, winning the play-off for third in front of 120,000 people. The final squad included 10 players who had come through the AIS program.
  • National Youth League (Oct 1991 to May 1992) finished second in the minor premiership after 26 matches. Lost the Northern Division Grand Final in extra time.
  • July 1991 – played seven matches against U21 teams of first division clubs in Argentina and Chile. AIS recorded draws with River Plate and Valencia in Argentina and wins against Gimnasia Esgrima and Platense.
  • The team lost two matches in Chile against Colo-Colo and Universidad Catolica and won against Wanders in Valparaiso.
