Introduction

Volunteers provide valuable support in the delivery of community-based physical activity programs and sports club operations. At the community sport level, volunteers serve as coaches, officials, team managers, administrators, board and committee members; with many individuals filling multiple roles.

Volunteers help to sustain the club sport system in many countries, as well as making a major contribution to school sport and a range of community leisure activities. From grassroots participation to high performance sport, volunteers make an enormous contribution.
