Sport for development - the UNICEF approach

Date:

26 Jul 2012

Presenters:

Bernt Aasen, Regional Director for UNICEF Latin America and the Caribbean

Synopsis

In this presentation, Bernt Aasen, Regional Director for UNICEF Latin America and the Caribbean, talked about UNICEF’s approach to Sports for Development internationally and how sport can be used to make a difference in the lives of children and their communities, particularly in the Caribbean where UNICEF and the Australian Sports Commission have a mutual interest.

UNICEF's Sport for Development (S4D) work is grounded in its mission to ensure that every child has the right to recreation and play in a safe and healthy environment — a right founded in Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child — as well as the right to sport, which is specifically contained in other international treaties.

More information on UNICEF’s important work in Sports for Development can be found through this link to the UNICEF website.
